Mela Bengzon was admitted to practice law both in the Philippines and in the State of New York, USA. She serves as a director and corporate secretary of a number of Philippine companies and various subsidiaries of multinational corporations doing business in the Philippines and in the foreign chamber of commerce.
Mela Bengzon has significant practice in the areas of corporate and securities law. She represented clients in various mergers and acquisitions, international joint ventures and project finance; and counseled investors in leveraged acquisitions. She has also assisted various international corporations in structuring full or partial equity participation in Philippine corporations as well as incorporation of foreign subsidiaries and representative offices in the Philippines.
Mela Bengzon has been appointed to key positions by the Philippine government, i.e. she was chairperson of the Economic Liberalization Committee of the Charter Change Advocacy Commission and Deputy Secretary General of the Consultative Commission. Her most recent post in the Philippine Government is as the Honorary Investment and Trade Representative (Trade Ambassador) to the European Union [2007-2011].
Mela Bengzon is a professor at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business and the De La Salle University Graduate School of Business and Far Eastern University Institute of Law. She obtained her degree in Political Science (with honors) at the University of the Philippines and Bachelor of Laws at the Ateneo de Manila University, College of Law (Dean Lister).
